I said I would "try" to write one post a week so here is my first contribution:

Where have I been and why haven't I been keeping up with my blog? Well, long story short, after passing the BAR exam, I got a position as an associate attorney at a small law firm and started to work. And work. And work. I literally was at the office 12-14 hours a day and sometimes Saturdays. My life was consumed with cases and clients. Meaning that if I even had the time or inclination to write a blogpost, all I would have had to talk about would have been, well, cases and clients, with the odd office politics post now and again. Since I have a duty of confidentiality, and there is always the off chance that someone would recognize his case, or a friend's case, on this blog, I figured discretion was the better part and opted not to post at all.

Besides, does anyone really want to read the ins and outs of ERISA or FMLA claims? I didn't think so.

BUT, low and behold, about two weeks after my 31st birthday ;) I discovered that I was expecting. Since the Hubs and I had already been married for over two years I had kind of resigned myself to never having a baby, so needless to say we were both pretty excited! And with the news came dramatic shifts in my priorities.

I gave birth to CT on July 31, 2011. (Maybe I'll do a birth story post next?) I am still working on a few cases from home, which is nice. I really like the clients I have right now, and I intend to maintain a limited practice. I'm thinking adoptions, wills, and maybe some other odds and ends.

And of course, the baby is a wiggly bundle of yummy love! I'm so glad that I don't have to drop him at daycare. We're attached at the... well, it's not called a "hip" in common parlance (!) thanks to the Hubs who works so hard.

Well, that's it for now. I'll post some pictures of baby with the next post.Sarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09505863189649568369noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589802075680077931.post-39312287641624075252009-05-31T14:08:00.004-05:002009-06-01T04:39:05.923-05:00Abortionist Tiller ShotAbortionist George Tiller was shot at his Reformed Lutheran church today.

Read the full story here.

Pray that God may have mercy on Tiller's soul, and pray for the man who took God's vengeance into his own hands.Sarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09505863189649568369noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589802075680077931.post-16007837359596943202008-12-28T21:12:00.002-05:002008-12-28T21:38:34.187-05:00An Ode to LanerI had a mission, so simple, so clear . . .
Just make fun of Lane, whom I hold so dear.

I sat at my desk, and I thought and I thought,
But to razz my friend Lane, well it all came to naught.

I have plenty of fodder from the good times we've had,
Or maybe a one-liner about Laner's Dad.

Should I write about things that Lane liked that I found?
Like a pretty blue egg that fell to the ground?

Perhaps I should tell of the hilarity
When we ran through the halls with a stick and a bee?

Now those were the days of unrestrained humor,
The making of jokes and starting of rumors.

Lane must be wondering what's wrong with me now,
As he's currently reading with dark, furrowed brow.

But 'though this poem is very weak . . .
You're the one living on "Gaylord Street!"

Love ya' Laner!Sarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09505863189649568369noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589802075680077931.post-35606797593651442012008-12-01T20:04:00.002-05:002008-12-01T20:16:17.769-05:00Tagged Again!The rules of this Meme are:
1. Since our local newspaper is pretty lefty, the editorial throws in the necessary references to "theocratic bullies" and "homophobic bigots." (Read the whole thing here.) But the main gist of the opinion piece questions the ad campaign of the Prop 8 supporters, which has brought up protection of children as an ancillary issue to this vote.

The author dismisses this tactic, but are the Prop 8 supporters so off base? In Massachusetts, so-called homosexual marriage was also "legalized" by judicial fiat. Have the kids there been affected, and are Californians right to be concerned about their children's safety if they don't stop the redefinition of marriage in their own state? Based on the information contained at this website the answer is emphatically "Yes!" Warning, the information contained at this site is extremely disturbing and I advise you to "click" with caution.

In Massachusetts, parents are not allowed to "opt out" of pro-homosexuality lessons, children in kindergarten are being indoctrinated, instructions about how to perform various sex acts that are really obscene have been disseminated, and teenage boys have been given information sheets about where the gay bars are so they can be picked up by adult predators. Absolutely disgusting. Is there any real doubt that the educrats in California won't be pulling these same stunts if Prop 8 doesn't pass?

Ultimately, the writer of the opinion piece is right. Who wouldn't vote for protecting children?Sarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09505863189649568369noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589802075680077931.post-28565807665737107192008-10-29T20:12:00.004-05:002008-11-02T09:46:59.732-05:00Sarah Palin in IndianaI went to the Palin rally tonight, but when 8:00 p.m. came my husband, my mom, my sister and her roommate and I were still inching along in traffic. Palin. It is the dreaded "rusty coat-hanger" argument.

From now on, here is how that line of "reasoning" will be rebutted by yours truly:

Pro-Abort: "You are such a horrible person! If abortion isn't legal, women will be forced to jeopardize their health with a rusty coat-hanger!"

Me: "You're right. I love, Love, LOVE Sarah Palin! I love that she's authentically pro-life, and I really love the way she's got the uber-lib types scrambling! This is fantastic!

One of the best lines? But of course, I have to put up some pictures.

Here is one where we are saying our vows . . .

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_Jf2HQSOfTgmEl0SnOtZ9gsUDXan_BrtKwxukRDo3MtECOqrgec2wcQha4JMaLAyHnFhOOC4PzE67bNtKQ4LUwuBVeEmHjmM9goPFcfFIjskiXQRkOQkpMNgFHAtDLd2Bf6DfIiGHZuOa/s320/105.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5226555188830079170" />

And here is a funny one of the wedding party, and one of my nephews, whose presence we were very perturbed by . . .

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLfCC_ZL5Up534KMMZ7Ey6k8rJVQY0JvqrpxciLeS1FfdZBvFIKmHQXOI9jd1uMtRRIoKzowvHMIawBVspecRjQSd9zNSrQhAcDdI8mKb3kuolfMs7sF9IY6bYaMv78Nu0XskdbKCvR3Wk/s320/202.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5226556213446921522" />

I also attended The Church Teaches Forum, and was fortunate enough to get a photo with Cardinal Arinze!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmrdFK3_bKCPCma-r0EcPz_u9MMPki2sFEp1s5Urk-lafcgowEgG_fpZ9NXwKQX7qDyd_DIYvtGzR18pd86yobuytEOydGRDXZNcpC-rrUlGACuhAVYGsNrf_qfOJxgCHEKDLzH1vKc9UX/s320/Barrister's+Ball+019.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5226557079869336946" />

When I was introduced to His Eminence by Mom, and appropriately kissed his ring (ahem, IR, or should I say RC?)I asked for a picture and he said, "Okay, but not by yourself." Which was fine by me, but I wasn't sure what the caveat was for . . . Mom said that it could be scandalous for the Cardinal to have a picture with a young woman by herself, or it could be used for scandalous purposes, which I think is pretty respectable. The man in the picture is Pat Monaghan, who practices International Law with the ACLJ, I think, so not bad company!

Some of you may be thinking to yourselves, "Isn't this girl supposed to be studying for the Bar Exam?" The answer is "Yes!" The following is a little overview of what I have been doing instead . . .

putting up pot racks . . .
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_HVb19lfdIK_CBZF9g18FoHAt2WdJKnFbSFV9H6YcrYd9oaNa_YPkIN51c6cYJo829klIVetOeLmS4POnaW8fbahuP9-8HqIyCI91cwFwivRxjSegBy9OHZBv69yNAIVkhfWiNTOGrsS6/s320/Barrister's+Ball+020.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5226559075965876386" />

painting . . .
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6yTxy7yfhFyoESwkQiXpXOl6lyNbHDj9qGHOe2gYz-4hB1W1zxVqno7NMF9Cj-y4mhmXlhxwX8Ncaf_A8-j84mLJE0TSm5XKfZwMmMigydspF_dA8wg8MIFGYUBn83WBQJJmFlfxmbOa4/s320/Barrister's+Ball+005.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5226559676965943698" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWSf18oICXCvw-pdd4vdnlrUlPC0aeIHlTncCkhq2RknrCOK1Vjvr0f8Ek4jxJgh5Mj3aYm5dJo_YFtKtQZdBPC6fYAMYCo42UXIYBzeF0YjC52CBQMmG3HQLeQ9OHszZY6B6Tjn0gs753/s320/Barrister's+Ball+008.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5226559682572250050" />

and hanging pictures . . .
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_r7j2-bno2F08x47Z5YfSFzvnqX0-6yJz9qs6BC3sCWNxgGt-IsY3arie-eIhG0NdVvwnOxf2fBDm-Z0GUpreh0N1YL3o_-ygfxYU-suFrlk1EWsCQlOBJ2Um_i3hSCAebAsKB3yqSy3o/s320/Barrister's+Ball+016.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5226560306961567634" />

Emphatically NOT studying. Generally when I've seen those types of comments on blogs I kind of do an eye roll and dismiss, but when someone says it to you in person you have to respond. So I squinched my eyebrows together at my classmate and mumbled that most of the Pope's "stuff" was gifts and that it didn't really belong to him, it belonged to the Church, so he can't just give it away.

Not a very satisfying response. Or persuasive.

So I was stewing about this interchange until it suddenly hit me:

Matthew 26:7-13

7There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat. 8 But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? 9 For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. 10 When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. 11 For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. 12 For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. 13 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.

Why, oh why, didn't I say something pithy, clever, and thought provoking like, "The disciples asked that same question of Jesus when the woman annointed him with expensive oils."

GRRRRRR!Sarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09505863189649568369noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589802075680077931.post-29249839437849798282008-04-17T07:52:00.003-05:002008-11-13T07:51:10.459-05:00Pope Benedict XVII am lucky enough to have a ticket for the Papal Mass this weekend in New York. It's a nice distraction from my Administrative Law final exam that is due at 4:30!

Here goes:

1. When tagged, place the name and URL on your blog.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write 7 non-important things/quirks/habits about yourself.
4. Name 7 of your favorite blogs.

7 non-important things/quirks/habits about myself:

1. I have a footnote in a Georgetown Law Review article.
2. I have thirteen nieces and nephews, courtesy of two of my sisters.
3. I would like to win the procreation race in my family. So far the high scorer has eight.
4. If I need to control a laugh, I hold my nose.
5. My fiance and I met on Ash Wednesday last year while volunteering at an income tax clinic. He says he was attracted to the ashes.
6. I am a major procrastinator. Hey, I need the pressure!

and last but not least . . .
7. My blog is named after my cat, who was named after the Mines of Moria in LOTR. My cat disappeared about six years ago. She's not dead, she's on the incredible journey. Mom thinks she made it to Hollywood.

My seven favorite blogs? This is a tough one, since there are so many good ones, but here are the seven I read most regularly:

1. Ignorant Redneck
2. Pro Ecclesia * Pro Familia * Pro Civitatis
3. Thoughts of a Regular Guy
4. The Curt Jester
5. Et Tu, Jen?
6. Catholic Caveman
7. And last but not least, this is my brother-in-law's blog . . .Seeking JusticeSarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09505863189649568369noreply@blogger.com2
